A 15-year-old boy was stabbed five times on a tram in Croydon town centre.

The teenager suffered a punctured lung in the attack, which happened near West Croydon at 12.40am on Monday.

The knifeman, believed to have boarded at Mitcham, lunged at three young men with the weapon before getting off the tram.

Police this afternoon released CCTV images of a man wanted in connection to the stabbing.

Detective Constable Marie Jeffery, of the British Transport Police, said: "I must find who was responsible for this serious assault.

"I have issued these two CCTV images in the hope someone recognises this man, or saw what happened. I believe he can help us with the investigation.

"If you know the man, or were on the tram at the time of the assault, please contact BTP."
