Police have released a photograph of Maurice Baxter who was killed after being hit by an articulated lorry in Croydon.

He has not yet been formally identified but police say he is Maurice Baxter, an 80-year-old from Croydon.

He was crossing Wellesley Road at about 2.30pm on Thursday when he was hit.

Some witnesses said they believed Mr Baxter had just left a funeral at the nearby St Mary's Catholic Church when he was killed.

His next of kin have been informed.

Detectives from the serious collision investigation unit at Catford would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or the moments leading up to it.

The lorry driver stopped and has not been arrested.
