Artists have been invited to submit designs for an series of sculptures that will see miniature London buses roll into Croydon.

Painted Routemaster buses will be installed in early December following similar "sculpture trails" in Trafalgar Square, Westminster and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. 

The artworks have been commissioned by Transport for London as part of its Year of the Bus campaign.

The deadline for submissions for Croydon's sculptures is October 30, with the winning artists confirmed on November 3. 

Winning designs, for which artists will be paid £900, need to be painted and varnished by the end of November. A display location has not yet been chosen but is likely to be in the town centre.

TfL's Year of the Bus campaign involves events, exhibitions and activities to mark the 60th anniversary of Routemaster's launch and 100 years since the world's first mass-produced motor bus.
