It is that time again to vote for your Wandsworth sports personalities of the year.

The Active Wandsworth Awards are in their 18th year and winners include such names as Commonwealth Games judo gold medal winner Winston Gordon and 2012 Paralympian table tennis bronze medal winner Aaron McKibbin.

Competition will be especially tough this year as Wandsworth won the London Youth Games title for the second successive year.

Last year, swimmer Julian Chan Quee Lin won sports personality of the year, while Greg Cutwell of Balham Blazers was a double winner, collecting the sports club of the year and outstanding contribution to sport and physical activity.

He said: “Being at the awards is inspiring, seeing the wide range of sports and the achievements.

“It is incredibly important to recognise people’s achievements and efforts on nights like this.”

Last year’s compere, Paralympic gold medallist over 800m Danny Crates said: “The awards nights are what sport is all about.

“They are brilliant because it is a huge mix of backroom people, like the treasurer of 50 years – most people don’t even know their name and yet the club would not exist without them – right through to the coach who stands out in the pouring rain, to the athletes themselves.”

The closing date for nominations is January 4, and they can be submitted at wandsworth.gov.uk/active.
