Firefighters, police and paramedics have been called to Croydon Village Outlet over fears of a gas leak.
The department store, which is due to relaunch under new ownership tomorrow as Zervo, has been evacuated after a gas alarm went off at 1.40pm.
Police have cordoned off the area surrounding the store, including Dingwall Avenue, while specialist fire crews investigate.
London Fire Brigade said it sent several engines and a hazardous area response team to the store.
It is not yet clear whether there has been a gask leak.
