A thug who attacked a bus driver after the driver asked another passenger to use the rear doors instead of the front ones has been jailed for 15 months.

Jaymin Small pulled open the driver’s cab and dragged him off the 74 bus onto the kerb before running away down Selhurst Road, Selhurst.

The 46-year-old victim was left bleeding from a head injury and taken to hospital by ambulance where he received treatment for a large cut.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s roads and transport policing command  investigated the attack, which happened at about 4pm on February 12.

He was arrested about six weeks later and during a search of his house in Beaconsfield Road, Selhurst, counterfeit notes were found.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing counterfeit currency and actual bodily harm (ABH) and was sentenced to three months for the currency and 12 months for ABH at Croydon Crown Court last Thursday, November 27.

These sentences will run consecutively.

Chief Superintendent Matt Bell said: “This sentence sends a strong message that this type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and will result in tough penalties."

And Transport for London’s deputy director of enforcement and on-street operations, Siwan Hayward, said: "This was an unprovoked attack towards a bus driver who was just doing his job, and I am pleased to see the offender has been jailed."
