Croydon has launched a petition requesting the Government creates a national register of domestic abuse offenders.
The petition needs 100,000 signatures to be debated in the House of Commons.
It was launched after Croydon Council announced a new three-year strategy to tackle the issue of domestic violence, working with young people in schools, the police and the NHS as well as other bodies such as the Family Justice Centre.
Councillor Mark Watson, cabinet member for safety and justice, said: “A national register can make a real difference to tackling domestic abuse.
“It will help manage and reduce the number of serial offenders, and ensure they are not able to simply move to a different area and keep abusing.”
p Earlier this month, the Croydon Guardian reported the borough was one of the worse areas in the UK for incidents of domestic violence.
We would like to state there is no data colelcted that compares for levels of domestic violence across the country.
Croydon has the highest number of incidents in London, and is 19th worst in the capital per 1000 population.
