An NHS IT failure has reportedly affected hospitals across the county, but local hospitals confirmed it had no impact on their care.

Political blog Guido Fawkes announced that the internal broadband network, called N3, has gone down and affected most users nationwide.

It said: "There has been a massive internal IT failure causing chaos in hospitals across the country."

In response to the report, a spokesman at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Trust said: "The internet outage caused no disruption to the care we provide.

"As all of our N3 services were unaffected, the only disruption we had was no access to external web sites."

A message from the national Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) was broadcast to staff at the hospitals at about 8am.

A spokeswoman from HSCIC said the problem was confined to the "internet gateway" and accessing external websites.
