Breaststroke princess Sophie Fussell of Teddington Swimming Club confirmed her status as the fastest in Middlesex over 100m and 200m, and she is only 13.

She was competing at the second weekend of the Middlesex County Swimming Championship at Barnet Copthall, when she helped contribute to a club medal haul of five golds, 10 silvers and seven bronzes.

Fussell won the U13s 100m and 200m breaststroke in one minute 11.51 seconds and 1:13.18 respectively – times that won her four trophies, two to mark being the fastest in the U16s, and a further two for being fastest in the open age group.

Furthermore, she was presented with a certificate for breaking the Middlesex County junior 100m time.

Her fellow competitor in the same age group, Anna Smail, 12, won two more county titles.

The first came in the 100m freestyle, breaking the one-minute barrier for the first time in 59.98secs, and she also became county champion in the 400m freestyle in a new best time of 4:36.85.

Smail went on to win two silver medals in the 100m fly and 100m breaststroke, and bronze in the 200m individual medley.
