A six hour stand-off ensued overnight as a man took a woman hostage and threatened to harm her and set fire to a house in South Norwood.
The man, who has not been named, had a blowtorch and was refusing to come out of the property in Hurlstone Road when emergency services arrived at about 10pm last night.
Police, including firearms officers, spent just over six hours at the home and got him to come out at 4.20am.
He was arrested and will undergo a mental health assessment.
The woman was not injured.
