Addresses in Tadworth, Carlshalton, Mitcham and a business in Wallington were raided today as part of a police investigation into alleged money laundering.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police's money laundering team and officers from the Daniel Morgan murder investigation team arrested a 52-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman at the Tadworth address after the raid at 7.30am.

Mr Morgan was found with an axe embedded in his head in the car park of the Golden Lion pub, Sydenham, almost 20 years ago.

The private investigator was believed to have been looking into alleged police corruption at the time of his death.

Police said although the murder inquiry is separate from today's raid, the intelligence that led to it came from police investigating Mr Morgan's killing.

The 52-year-old was arrested on suspicion of money laundering offences and possession of a firearm. The woman was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

Several canisters of CS gas and a small amount of cash were seized from the address.

Around 30 officers were involved in the operation assisted by dogs trained to sniff out cash and drugs.
