I write in response to Dominic Joyeux’s letter (Your Say, February 26) in which he laments the fairness of Sutton Council and its genuine attempt to consult with its residents.

I would argue that while they do consult they do not listen to the protests on Heart of Hackbridge and the incinerator, for example.

He also says that other councils squeeze and upset their residents by putting yellow lines everywhere and extracting a fortune in aggressive parking ticket schemes, but Sutton has announced an increase in parking charges.

As for the morale of the dustmen being positive – how positive would he feel if he had been told he is going to be given his 90 days notice and will have to reapply for his job (in some cases held for decades), so that his employer can change his terms and conditions?
