If you've passed through Shoreditch High Street in the last four years, you'll know what Croydon's newly announced pop-up mall holds in store for shoppers.

Boxpark Croydon, made up of rows of refitted shipping containers, will retain the look of its east London forerunner, as this fly-through video tour of the plans shows.

From yesterday: Shoreditch pop-up mall Boxpark to open in Croydon in summer 2016

The fashionable retail venture will include 80 units, most accommodating small independent shops and restaurants, as well as a courtyard, used for events throughout the yearm and picnic tables on raised platforms.

The mall, with black-and-white striped walls and a transparent roof, is likely to transform the feel of George Street.

Gavin Elliott, who designed the mall, which will sit by East Croydon station, said: "As a designer with a long-standing enthusiasm for creating memorable structures using upcycled shipping containers, working with [founder] Roger Wade and his team on Boxpark Croydon has been a dream commission.

"We are all intent on delivering something truly unique and amazing; building on the experience of Boxpark Shoreditch, but taking it to the next level and beyond to create a really vibrant, buzzing place, right in the heart of Croydon.”

The long-rumoured mall will open in summer 2016, it was announced yesterday.

It is understood it will last for three years before making way to Stanhope and Schroder's Ruskin Square development.
