A London Road brand, designed to restore "energy and vibrancy" to the area, has been chosen in a public vote.

The major road, badly scarred by the 2011 riots, will get a colourful logo and its own website from next month.

Thornton Heath designers Future of Croydon created three brandings for Croydon Council, with the most popular scoring 418 of 650 votes cast in an online poll.

Ashley Wyllie, the design company's director, said: “As Future of Croydon and as local residents we are proud to have been involved in a project that is at the start of bringing back energy and vibrancy to London Road.

“Hopefully this project will be the catalyst for change in London Road, to enhance relations within the community, bring the traders closer together and restore the family spirit, with the ultimate aim of making London Road a better place to live, work and visit."

The branding will be "displayed prominently" in London Road, said Croydon Council, which is spending £1.5m on a package of projects - including an enterprise hub and a "safer, cleaner co-ordinator" - to boost West Croydon.

Coun Toni Letts, cabinet member for economic development, said: "London Road is home to a wealth of successful family businesses, and its vibrancy is clearly shown with the new branding, which is part of the major transformation works that are underway in the area.

"London Road businesses and residents are leading the way in the changing face and prosperity of Croydon."
