Police have released footage of two men armed with a loaded crossbow burgling a Thornton Heath shop.

The CCTV footage shows the thieves walking into the mobile phone store, in High Street, and laying the weapon on the counter.

They stole four handsets before leaving in the direction of Grange Park.

The manager of the shop had briefly left it unattended while he visited a neighbouring store.

Detectives today appealed for witnesses to the theft, at about 8.25pm on March 2.

Detective Constable Christine Moorhouse, of Croydon police's burglary squad, said: "One of the suspects appears to have a loaded crossbow as they go into the shop, so it is concerning that somebody has this weapon and is carrying it around in public like this.

"We are keen to hear any information about who these people are, so please contact immediately if you know anything."
