Award for a dedicated volunteer

A woman who dedicates her spare time to a pet hospital in South Croydon has been named PDSA Volunteer of the Year 2006.

Phyllis Seymour, 74, was honoured for her dedication to the fundraising group, of which she is chairman, and for being a loyal supporter of the charity for more than 40 years.

“PDSA relies on the dedicated support of individuals like Phyllis. She works tirelessly for pets in need of vets and is a superb ambassador for the charity.”

With the help of other volunteers and members of staff at the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) PetAid Hospital in Hurst Road, Phyllis also organises two dog shows a year and other fundraising events. She dedicates more than 10 hours a week to the PDSA.

The charity's head of volunteering, Janet Compton, said: "PDSA relies on the dedicated support of individuals like Phyllis. She works tirelessly for pets in need of vets and is a superb ambassador for the charity."
