A man accused of a series of arson attacks - including one which resulted in the deaths of two men - has denied the charges.

Robert Torto, from Stockwell, south London, denied two charges of murder and three counts of arson with intent to endanger life, including one relating to a blaze at a South Norwood off-licence.

The 33-year-old is accused of killing Khizer Hayat, 40, in a blaze at a Kennington Pricecutter Food and Wine in April 2006. Mr Hayat's colleague Hamidullah Hamidi died six days later.

He is also accused of an attack on a South Norwood off-licence in Portland Road on April 20 and starting a blaze at a shop in Tulse Hill on April 14 .

Torto was remanded in custody to appear before the Old Bailey on July 9.
