COUNCILLORS have called last orders on a pub for the next three months by suspending its licence.

This follows a string of incidents at The Partridge pub in Chipperfield Road, Orpington, over the past year.

The Met Police called for the licence to be revoked after submitting a dossier to Bromley Council's licensing committee outlining details of the incidents.

These included allegations of a customer being attacked with an axe by two other men, fighting, thefts, drug dealing and underage drinking.

At a licensing hearing on March 8, the committee suspended the pub's licence for three months.

A series of strict conditions imposed by the committee, which have to be met before the pub can re-open, include:

  • Drafting in a new tenant, approved by the police, to run the pub, which is owned by Enterprise Inns Limited;
  • Implementing a random drug search policy, including checks on admittance, sniffer dog patrols and toilets areas to be checked by staff every 15 minutes;
  • The installation of a digital CCTV system;
  • Registered bouncers on duty from 5pm until 30 minutes after closing time;
  • Staff to be trained to use the CCTV system and deal with crime and disorder, public safety and drug abuse.

The current licence, now the subject of the suspension order, allows the sale of alcohol until 11.30pm from Sunday to Thursday and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

In the Met Police dossier, a catalogue of call-outs are listed between November 2005 and December last year.

Some of these incidents have been, and still are, the subject of court proceedings, so the details cannot be reported for legal reasons.

A Bromley Council spokesman said: "We found the conditions proposed were necessary and proportionate to achieve the licensing objective concerning the prevention of crime and disorder."
