Representatives of more than 20 of Croydon's licensed premises toasted the launch of this year's Best Bar None campaign.
Landlords, managers, bar staff and promoters were at Tiger Tiger in High Street to hear details of this year's search for the borough's safest premises.
Police Borough Commander Mark Gore and joint deputy council leader Steve O'Connell backed the campaign.
Both told the launch event Best Bar None had reduced crime and booze-fuelled trouble in and around pubs, clubs and bars.
Organisers are keen for premises outside the town centre to enter this year.
Application forms are available from the council.
