Tram to Palace

Croydon's councillors have urged Ken Livingstone to approve the extension of the Tramlink to Crystal Palace quickly. There was cross-party support for the idea at a meeting of the council's cabinet on Monday.

Councillor Chris Wright, member for planning, environment and urban development, said: "We hope the mayor will be up front with the money for doing this project."

The extension would run from Harrington Road to Crystal Palace Parade. The council believes the hybrid' option would be the best route.

This would see trams run in Anerley Hill before turning on to rail tracks towards Crystal Palace Station and Crystal Palace Park.

Coun Wright added: "The principle of extending Tramlink to Crystal Palace Parade is something which the council strongly supports."

If given the go-ahead by the Government, the journey time between Croydon and Crystal Palace would be reduced to 18 minutes.
