Two men were chased through the streets of Purley and arrested just minutes after a 96-year-old man's home had been burgled.
Police ran after the suspects after being called to reports of two men acting suspiciously at about 9am yesterday.
A bag containing a crowbar, screwdrivers and a chisel was recovered, along with a watch and cufflinks.
The watch and cufflinks were traced to an address in Monahan Avenue, where the homeowner had just discovered that he had been burgled.
The men, aged 27 and 22, are being questioned by police.
