Two people have been arrested after a Muslim woman had her hijab torn off in an alleged racist attack in Croydon.

The 25-year-old victim is said have been on her way to collect her children from Al-Khair school in Cherry Orchard Road when she was assaulted.

Police said a member of the public intervened to stop the attack, in Derby Road, at 3pm yesterday.

Officers attended and arrested two women, aged 18 and 35, on suspicion of common assault and racially aggravated harassment.

The victim did not require hospital treatment and paramedics were not called.

Police are continuing to investigate the attack.
