A planning application to create a large retirement home has been submitted to Croydon Council.

McCarthy and Stone is proposing to redevelop the site by demolishing the existing buildings to make way for 32 one and two-bedroom retirement living flats, with ancillary communal facilities along with 26 car parking spaces.

It would replace four detached homes, 33-36 Sanderstead Court on Addington Road, South Croydon and would comprise 10 one bedroom apartments and 22 two-bedroom apartments.

An exhibition inviting more than 900 households and local businesses was held in March where the proposed plans and any questions were answered by the project team.

McCarthy and Stone state the proposals were refined following feedback from the exhibition and other consultation exercises.

In documents submitted to the council the developers estimate that 55 new residents generate a spend of £610,000 a year for local shops, and create employment opportunities.

The application was validated at the beginning of the month and it is expected the council will discuss the proposals in September.
