Footballers battling with mental health conditions took to the field for a tournament organised by charity Mind to promote the value of sport as a form of therapy.

Croydon Eagles, formed through Crystal Palace football club foundation, hosted the event, which included seven six-a-side teams, in Crystal Palace.

All teams consisted of players with mental health conditions, with the Eagles progressing to the final, but coming up short against the Brixton Pumas.

The July 24 event was launched by the ‘Go Set to Go’ program, led by the charity Mind, which has helped more than 75,000 people manage their mental health through sport and was supported by National Lottery.

Ken Ryan, Mind’s ‘Get Set to Go’ coach, said: "We all left with smiles on our face.

"The tournament fully captured the spirit of football.

"Mind’s mission of bringing people together to improve mental health has very clearly been achieved.

"We’ll definitely be back next year."
