Striders of Croydon did very well to have 33 finishers in Sunday's 27th London Marathon.

Their best performance came from Scott Antony. Already the holder of several of the club's track records, he set a new club marathon record of 2 hours 41 minutes 17 seconds, finishing 149th in the race.

This was more than three minutes faster than Striders' previous record, set seven years ago by Gerry Crispie.

Andy Allison also had an excellent run to finish in the top 1000, placing 992nd in 3 hours 3 minutes 16. Damian Macenhill was not far behind (3.04.52), while Paul Finch ran 3.19.03 and veteran Dave Shaw ran 3.24.07.

Striders' first woman finisher was Kerry Backshell, who placed 368th in the women's race (3.27.24). Club colleague Stephanie Noyce was 586th (3.36.40).

Striders also had two competitors in the Mini-Marathon, held over the last 2.65 miles of the marathon course. Nicholas Batten was 203rd in the Under-17 boys' race (16.24), while Sophie Shaw was 156th in the Under-17 girls' race (21.21).
