Rapping robot's recycling roadshow

Recycler the rapping robot will be making nine appearances at schools around the borough in the week of the first May bank holiday as part of a roadshow to celebrate Croydon Council's sponsoring of the Green Guardian school awards.

The robot will perform his 45-minute interactive show communicating benefits of the three R's, reduce, reuse and recycle, and give pupils examples of how they can put them into practice at home and at school.

He will appear during assembly's at Beulah Junior School, Virgo Fidelis Preparatory School, Davidson Primary School, Applegarth Nursery and Infant School, Kensington Avenue Primary School, Margaret Roper Catholic Primary School, Norbury Manor Primary School and West Thornton Primary School.

There will also be a special performance at Kingsley Primary School on May 10 attended by Croydon South MP Richard Ottoway, leading figures from the council's recycling operation, and a host of street champions and recycling champions invited by the council to celebrate a year's progress on recycling since the conservatives took office in Taberner House.

After witnessing Recycler's performance, the champions will then be whisked off for a tour of the hi-tech Dano Drum facility in Beddington Lane that sorts recyclable waste from residents wheeled-bin rubbish. There will then be talks and displays at Fairfield Halls on what the council has done over the past year and what they have planned for the future.

A series of public information leaflets aimed at helping residents get the best use out of the council's recycling, graffiti cleaning and flytip removal services will be launched, the expansion of kerbside recycling detailed, and waste management staff will set out how the borough is facing up to its waste electrical and electronic equipment disposal responsibilities.
