Surrey Harmony is holding a concert at the Miller Centre in Caterham on Friday, May 4, as a warm-up before attempting to become UK Barbershop champions for a record sixth time.

The group, based in Coulsdon, has been performing since 1990 and last year represented the UK at the world championships for women barbershop singers in Las Vegas.

Director Jenny Lawson said: "We are making our first appearance at the Miller Centre and we'll be unveiling our new competition costume. We're very excited about it. Although we are sticking with the theme of red, it's very different to what we have had before."

Six days later the group is due to perform at the UK Championship in Birmingham with a trip to Hawaii for the 2008 World Championships on offer.

Jenny added: "You can imagine just how much all of us want to win that gold medal this time round and we'll be flying the flag for Surrey as usual. We'd love a big audience in Caterham to get us really fired up."

Tickets for the performance at the Miller Centre, Godstone Road, can be obtained from the box office on 01883 349 850 or at surreyharmony.com.
