Voters can relive the drama and excitement of one of the tightest election contests in the country, which was decided by a mere 165 votes.

ELECTION 2015:

It appears the fight for the marginal seat of Croydon Central is getting the authorial treatment, after Conservative MP Gavin Barwell revealed he has written a book recounting his victorious election campaign.

The first news of Mr Barwell's literary foray came in an October 28 tweet, which read: "Book finished & emailed to potential publisher. Now the nervous wait for feedback..."

Answering questions about the project in later tweets, the MP revealed the book would be "an account of what it's like to fight an ultra-marginal seat".

In May's general election Mr Barwell saw his parliamentary majority reduced by more than 2,800 votes as he clung on to his seat and fended off Labour challenger Sarah Jones.

When asked about the book project, Mr Barwell remained tight-lipped on any title or publication details, but revealed he had written the book over the summer before revising the manuscript during party conference season.

Mr Barwell is far from the first MP to try his hand at writing. But it remains to be seen whether his account of the Croydon campaign trail contains the kind of salacious revelations included in the memoirs of other parliamentarians.

In his 2014 memoir An Unexpected MP: Confessions of a Political Gossip, the irrevererent former Tory backbencher Jerry Hayes depicted a 1980s Westminster culture dominated by sex, drink, and foul-mouthed tirades.

Mrs Jones said: "It's nice to know that he's got time to write a book when so many of his constituents face so many problems.

"I'm surprised he is wasting time on vanity projects when his constituents are about to lose out from his tax credit cuts.

"I probabaly won't be rushing out to read it."
