Back to the Future-style 'hoverboards' are being recalled after a spate of explosions and fires.

Retailers are asking shoppers to send the wheeled devices back.

Marty McFly's hoverboards floated in the air, while the modern 'hoverboard' is more of a self-balancing wheeled Segway platform, giving the appearance of hovering.

National Trading Standards inspected 38,000 hoverboards between 15 October and the end of last week. More than 32,000 were dangerous.

Two men jumped out of a first floor window from a fire at a house in London Road, Morden, in October a hoverboard exploded while re-charging.

The fire killed a cat and saw a tank of fish rescued from the home just before 10am.
