Peter Taylor has admitted his interest in West Ham veteran Teddy Sheringham but doubts whether he will be able to reunite the striker with his son Charlie at Selhurst Park.

The 41-year-old former England frontman is out of contract following a disappointing season with the Hammers and is attracting interest from both home and abroad.

Although Taylor admits he is a fan of Sheringham, he has not approached him about a possible move, citing his unchanged position in regards to bringing in new players.

"Everybody knows I admire him, but I am in the same situation. If someone does not move from here, then it makes it difficult for me to bring people in," said Taylor.

"Teddy looks after himself, he's fit, a good professional and can still do a job."

Teddy's son Charlie joined the Eagles last summer but has yet to make a first team appearance. He is currently playing for Crystal Palace USA, along with fellow 19-year-old Lewwis Spence, to gain some competitive experience before mounting a first team assault next season.

A father-and-son combination at a league club would be a first, but Taylor says bringing in Sheringham or any other new talent to Selhurst Park is not a main priority, "If I keep the same squad of players which ended last season I will be very happy," he said.

"But we might be able to get one or two in, depending on if we get a big offer for one of the players here."

Taylor revealed talks with out-of-contract players Dougie Freedman and Gary Borrowdale are still on-going.

"The talks have not gone much further because of the court case with Simon, but when that ends, discussions will move forward."

Fellow out-of-contract Eagle Michael Hughes is unlikely to remain at Selhurst Park next season, even though Taylor indicated he might be offered a new deal if a midfielder is sold in the summer.

Hughes has been heavily linked with a move to Coventry to link up with Iain Dowie.

The former Eagles boss tried to bring Hughes to the Ricoh Arena on loan last season, but the Sky Blues are waiting to see if a possible takeover is completed before weighing up moves for players.
