The vice-chairman of London Councils has applauded everyone involved in the Green Guardian project and proclaimed it to be "fantastic".

Councillor Sean Brennan, who is also London Councils' executive member for sustainability, praised the initiative in an interview about the benefits of boroughs working together.

He has held this post, which focuses on how London can become greener through councils sharing ideas, since September 2006.

He said: "I think the Green Guardian is absolutely fantastic and I really must congratulate the Guardians for having the vision to do this.

"It is reaching into homes and making the environment interesting and also making people aware that they can make a contribution.

"It is making this exciting with competitions and bringing the boroughs together."

Speaking of his position in the London Councils' executive, Coun Brennan hopes he will be able to make more people aware of environmental issues as well as finding ways to tackle them.

He said: "My role in particular is a championing role and I feel strongly about this issue.

"It is an important aspect to us here and we are obviously very concerned about climate change which is under the sustainability umbrella.

"My role is a developing role and I consider part of my job to be raising the profile of sustainability."
