A fire has destroyed a two-storey building at Kenley Aerodrome.

The fire started at about 11pm last night and was battled by firefighters until the early hours of this morning.

A shortage of water reportedly hampered firefighter’s efforts to put out the blaze in the abandoned building.

Ten engines from Reigate, Godstone, Banstead, Reigate, Oxted, Warlingham, Addlestone and Kingston were all in attendance.

Croydon firefighters could not attend the blaze because they were putting out a flat fire in Scarbrook Road.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
