A Croydon man who "confronted" a Muslim woman about the Brussels terror attacks has been ridiculed online.
Matthew Doyle tweeted: “I confronted a Muslim women yesterday in Croydon. I asked her to explain Brussels. She said “Nothing to do with me”. A mealy mouthed reply.”
The tweet, which has since been deleted, went viral and soon became a hilarious meme.
I confronted a woman yesterday in Croydon. I asked her to explain Vienna. She said "It means nothing to me". A mealy mouthed reply.— Simon Pegg (@Simon_Pegg) March 23, 2016
I confronted Croydon and asked it to explain @MatthewDoyle31. Nobody had heard of him. A mealy mouthed reply.— Rupert Myers (@RupertMyers) March 23, 2016
@MatthewDoyle31 can you please provide an explanation for Donald Trump?— HANA (@IXIIIIXIXI) March 23, 2016
Mr Doyle later offered an apology saying he was “in a state of shock” when he decided to confront the woman.
@suzanneshine For sure - however I was horrified at the events that happened and was in a state of shock.— Matthew P Doyle (@MatthewDoyle31) March 23, 2016
Thank you for your thoughts. The incident did happen yesterday - If I was anyway threatening - I would be reported. Confront is a bad word.— Matthew P Doyle (@MatthewDoyle31) March 23, 2016
But he later followed apparent contrition with these tweets a few hours later:
Britain is for Britain's and those who accept our currency of decent behaviour and an intolerance of the Islamic threat to our nation.— Matthew P Doyle (@MatthewDoyle31) March 23, 2016
