Croydon became Calvary on Good Friday as hundreds of worshippers gathered for a re-enactment of the crucifixion.
The annual "Walk of Witness" took place in High Street led by an ecumenical group of the borough's Christian leaders, including the Anglican and Catholic bishops of Croydon.
Jesus, played by actor Matt Mowat, walked among the Bank Holiday shoppers, as the Croydon Minster Choir sung to soundtrack parts of the Passion of the Christ.
Other performers on the day included Ken Burton, the Croydon Gospel Choir, and the Salvation Army Band, led by Major Roger Batt.
