Scott Dann is happy for Crystal Palace to be the underdogs in the final of the FA Cup against Manchester United.

The Eagles reached their first FA Cup final in 26 years on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Watford at Wembley.

Alan Pardew’s side will face Man United on May 21 after the Red Devils beat Everton by the same scoreline on the previous day.

Louis van Gaal’s charge will undoubtedly be the favourites, but Dann insists the South Londoners can cause an upset.

The defender said: “We are always underdogs against the top teams.

“I think we thrive off that and hopefully on May 21 we can thrive off that.

“Everyone will be expecting Manchester United to win but we know we are more than capable of beating them.

“We will be going into it hopeful of winning the game.”

United comfortably beat Crystal Palace 2-0 last week in a league fixture to move up to fifth in the Premier League.

But Pardew left several first-team regulars out at Old Trafford and Dann doesn’t believe the result will have any bearing on the final.

The 29-year-old said: “It will be another big day and another difficult game.

“It will probably play out differently. They play differently to the way Watford do.

“We played them last week but it was with a totally different team and missing a lot of players.

“We need to finish the season off well and get some momentum. The squad is looking good at the minute.”

Crystal Palace travel to Newcastle on Saturday.
