Two women were treated for smoke inhalation after a flat fire in Thornton Heath this afternoon.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to Stuart Road at 1.52pm.

Fifteen firefighters tackled a fire in the ground floor flat of a three-storey house.

An LFB spokesman said the flat was "badly damaged".

Two women left the property before firefighters arrived and were treated for smoke inhalation on the scene by London Ambulance crews.

Three fire engines from Norbury and Woodside were sent to the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
