Boxpark Croydon will open its doors in September, the pop-up shopping mall company has announced.

The fashionable food-and-drink centre, constructed out of 97 retrofitted shipping containers next to East Croydon station, was originally slated to open in the summer.

Confirmed tenants include Meatliquor, The Breakfast Club, and Chilango, as well local offerings from familiar Croydon names including The Cronx brewery and the founders of Brgr & Beer.

The mall follows in the footsteps of the the company’s successful Shoreditch shopping centre.

Croydon Council has come under fire from some local businesses for backing the project with a £3m loan, but deputy leader Alison Butler has hailed the mall’s arrival as “an important milestone in the regeneration of our borough”.

A delayed September opening for the mall appeared more likely last month when the council announced its Ambition festival – previously held in July – would return in September in partnership with Boxpark.

Confirmed names also include the Craft Beer Co., Mamalan and Croydon newcomers Yumm.
