FOOTBALL legend Ledley King has thrown his support behind Children’s Hospice Week.

The former Tottenham Hotspur club captain dedicated his Tuesday morning to sorting through donated items of clothing, books and household goods for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice charity shop in Barnet.

The legend, who was also an England international defender, even served customers and put out new stock in the awareness campaign.

King said he enjoyed the experience of helping out the charity shop and getting involved in Children’s Hospice Week.

King said: “Noah’s Ark does some amazing work for children and families across North London so if anyone has any old clothes, books, furniture or toys that they aren’t using anymore, please don’t throw them away and instead donate them to one of the Noah’s Ark charity shops - it could really help to make a difference to the lives of young people who need our help the most.”

Tottenham Hotspur will help raise awareness for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for the next two years, pushing for more volunteers to get involved in the charity.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice provides North London’s only ‘hospice at home’ service, supporting children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice shop manager Tom Stringer said he appreciated the football legend taking the time out to get involved.

He said: “Our three shops are little community hubs, where locals have been dropping by to support us for many years. “The support for our cause is invaluable. It’s great to welcome a genuine hero along to acknowledge the importance of all the work that goes on here.”

The money raised will go towards the charity’s hospice at home care across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Islington, Camden and Hertsmere as well as towards the building of a bespoke hospice building in Barnet.

Noah’s Ark chief executive Ru Watkins added: “Members of the community have come together to create charities such as ours and provide extra support that would not otherwise be available. Children’s Hospice Week is an important opportunity to mark this support for children with life limiting and life threatening illnesses and their families.

"We are really grateful to the local community for their ongoing support and generosity. This has become even more important as we continue to expand the care we provide to those children and families who need it."
