The Croydon cat killer is feared to have slayed their latest victim after another pet was found beheaded in Coulsdon.

Brown-and-white moggy Tinker was found also missing his tail and front legs in Tollers Lane.

South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL) were called to the body in the early hours of May 31.

A post on SNARL’s Facebook page said: “His wounds bear a striking similarity to the wounds seen on other victims of the animal killer and for this reason, we believe he was killed by the same person.

“Rest in peace Tinker. Our thoughts are with your family.”

Owner Leanne Dodd took to social media to warn other cat owners in the area.

She said: “Sadly my cat has become another victim to the cat killer.

“I was woken at 1.45am this morning [May 31] by someone walking past my house on Tollers Lane. I heard them say, ‘Oh my god there’s a cat with no head.’ I immediately got up and looked out my bedroom window and could see it was my cat.”

The bodies of more than dozens of felines have been found butchered in Croydon and the surrounding areas in the past six months, raising fears of a sick serial killer and prompting a police investigation.

In a separate post SNARL pleaded with animal owners not to criticise the police for so far failing to catch the culprit.

It read: “This was never going to be an easy case to solve and the public need to get behind and help the officers working on it, not point fingers and criticise them.

“The official cause of death in all of the cats so far has been blunt force trauma. This could be the result of road traffic accidents but in most cases there is nothing to support this view, including and not limited to cats who didn't live near roads and no injuries suggesting road traffic accidents, which tend to be messy and have points of impact which leave obvious signs on both the road and the bodies.

“We understand the fear and frustration but if you can do one thing to help us, the police and the RSPCA investigator, it's to ensure that the right information goes out and stays in everyone's minds as we work on this case.”

In April the bodies of a dismembered ginger cat and decapitated black cat were found in Thornton Heath.

SNARL fears that the so-called cat killer is responsible for as many as 100 animal deaths over the last two years.

Earlier this year the RSPCA claimed scientific analysis of the mutilated pets suggested they had been mowed down by a car before being decapitated.
