An 81-year-old woman has died after being knocked down by a motorbike in Croydon.

The pensioner had been fighting for life in hospital after being struck in St James's Road at 3.40pm on June 5.

Paramedics and doctors on London's Air Ambulance attended and took the woman to a south London hospital, where she died yesterday.

Next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

The motorcyclist stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries. They have not been arrested.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision.

Detective Sergeant Wendy Parker, from the serious collision investigation unit said: "Sadly the victim has now died and it is imperative that anyone who may have seen the collision or who came to the lady's aid comes forward to speak to us.

"In particular there were two people waiting at a nearby bus stop, we have not been able to identify these individuals and we believe they may hold crucial information, as they would have been in a very good position to see what happened.

"I would urge anyone with any information to get in contact at the earliest opportunity."
