Four people have been charged with violent offences after a man was left fighting for his life following an attack in Croydon town centre.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of people fighting in Mint Walk at about 6.20am on Tuesday.

A man in his 50s was found suffering head injuries and was taken to hospital.

The daughter of the man, who did not want to be named, said he was in a critical condition in hospital with bleeding on the brain on Tuesday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said last night the man was in a stable condition.

Finian Barret, 22, of York Road, South Croydon and Tristan Long, 22, of no fixed address have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray and criminal damage.

They appeared in Croydon Magistrates’ Court yesterday and were remanded in custody to appear at Croydon Crown Court on July 13.

Gemma Atkinson, 18 of no fixed address, and a 17-year-old girl from South Croydon, who cannot be named because of her age, have been charged with affray, theft and criminal damage.
