Joel Ward believes Wilfried Zaha showed what kind of professional he is with his substitute performance against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Zaha, who has attracted an offer from Tottenham Hotspur, came on in the second half and helped inspire Crystal Palace to a comeback after going a goal behind early on.

The 23-year-old winger received a positive reaction from the Selhurst Park crowd and Ward is in no doubt that everyone at the club wants him to stay.

“The fans know Wilf and the character that he is,” said Ward after the 1-1 draw.

“The way that he applied himself, came on and did his job, was fantastic.”

When asked if the players are hoping to hang onto Zaha, Ward replied: “Definitely. We want to take this club forward and keep pushing on.

“Hopefully we can do that with him staying and some more additions.”

Although Ward is hoping manager Alan Pardew can bring in some new signings before the transfer deadline on Wednesday, the 26-year-old is confident Palace have enough strength to survive in the Premier League already.

“With the addition of Christian [Benteke], and Andros [Townsend], we’ve got more than enough and we’re going to create goals,” he said.

“The way that he [Benteke] held the ball up and the way he occupied the centre-halves [showed his unselfish side].

“At the other end Steve Mandanda did a great job as well, he kept us in the game in the first half.”
