A carnival atmosphere will descend on Thornton Heath Hight Street this Sunday for the area's annual street festival.

Organisers have promised a "distinct Soca vibe" when the festival kicks off at midday on Sunday.

Performers including Tamil Cultural Dancers, Slav-ya-nee and Kimberley SK will be gracing the stage throughout the afternoon, as well as Thornton Heath born and bred rapper GTsolo.

This year's festival will close off the road and allow visitors to roam along High Street sampling food, drink - as well as giving them plenty of opportunities to dance.

A parade starting at 3pm will feature processional pieces made by schoolchildren from the area and costumes produced for the Notting Hill carnival.

West Thornton Labour councillor Callton Young, who is vice-chairman of the festival, said: "Last year's festival was great but this year's will be fantastic.

"There will be a distinct Soca vibe with Soca champions like Triniboi Joocie and One The Band performing live, plus Notting Hill favourites Flagz Mas Band to show us how Soca is danced professionally and to get the crowd involved."

Soca is a genre of Caribbean music that draws influence from calpyso, funk and soul.

The 2016 Thornton Heath Festival takes place from midday to 6pm tomorrow.
