A drug-dealer stabbed a pensioner in a "vicious and wholly unprovoked" attack at Thornton Heath rail station.

The 70-year-old victim was walking through the station when he was approached by a man who attempted to sell him drugs and then lunged at him with a blade.

The pensioner suffered hand injuries as he shielded himself from the weapon just after 10pm on Monday, August 29.

Medics treated the wound and he is expected to make a full recovery.

British Transport Police today released a CCTV image of a man sought in connection to the stabbing.

Detective Constable Michael Stephenson said: "This was a vicious and wholly unprovoked assault and we are working tirelessly to track the person responsible.

"Luckily the victim only suffered a minor wound, but this could have ended very differently, therefore it is important we identify the attacker.

"I am very keen on speaking with anyone who might recognise this man in the CCTV. Likewise, if you saw or heard anything suspicious that evening, please get in touch today."
