Two men have been jailed for stabbing and robbing a pensioner as he washed his car in Thornton Heath.

Bobby Baker, 27, and Darren Dean Baker, 21, both of Norbury Avenue were found guilty at Croydon Crown Court earlier this month - a year to the day since the "despicable attack".

On September 16, 2015, the 79-year-old man was cleaning in his car in his driveway at about 9.50am when he was attacked by three men.

One robber, armed with a knife, punched the elderly man, knocking him to the floor, before stabbing him in the hand.

He was then robbed of his phone, wallet and watch before the three men ran off towards Green Lane.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries and later discharged.

Bobby Baker was jailed for six years for his role in the robbery on Friday, September 16, and Darren Dean Baker was sentenced to five years.

Shaquille Barrett, 21, of Windsor Road, appeared at Croydon Crown Court in October and pleaded guilty to taking part in the attack, as well as other crimes.

He was jailed for four years.

Following the pair's sentencing, Detective Constable Emma Crowley, of Croydon police, said: "This was a despicable crime against an elderly victim who was just going about his usual business at his home address.

"I am happy all three men involved in the robbery have now been bought to justice.

"I hope that these convictions and sentences act as a deterrent to others and shows that we will relentlessly pursue those who commit robbery, arrest them and put them before the courts to answer for their crimes."
