Police are appealing for witnesses to a violent mugging in Thornton Heath.
A 33-year-old man was walking along Thornton Road when he was approached by two other men near the junction with Limpsfield Avenue.
One of the attackers tried to grab the victim's phone out of his hand while the other man took out a knife.
There was a struggle and the victim needed hospital treatment after suffering deep cuts to his fingers holding his phone and four puncture wounds to his back.
The incident happened at about 10.30pm on September 26.
