Remembrance services are to be held across South London and North Surrey this Sunday to remember those in the armed forces who have lost lives in the line of duty since the First World War.

A number of memorial services and parades are to be held by branches of the Royal British Legion on Remembrance Sunday, November 13, with memorials and silences to be held on Friday, November 11.

A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am at services across the country.

Here are the services going on for each borough:

Kingston

Your Local Guardian:

  • Remembrance service for disabled veterans at the Royal Star and Garter Home in Surbiton. Southborough High School and The German School pupils will be doing a reading of a WW1 soldier’s letter to his wife in English and German and lighting a candle of reconciliation.   • Join the Mayor Councillor Geoff Austin for a service at the New Malden war memorial, 9.30am. The service will finish at 10am where the Mayor will be escorted back to Guildhall, to attend the Kingston service and to take part in the march. If the weather is bad, the service at the War Memorial will be cancelled and held inside the Methodist Church instead.   • The Mayor will join the Kingston service at 10:35 with a procession from Guildhall to the Kingston War memorial, arriving at 10:45am for a short service and the laying of the wreaths. At 11:15am the Mayoral and civic parties will attend a service at All Saints Parish Church. Following the service, there will be a procession to the Guildhall where the commemoration will be concluded. If the weather is bad, the outside service planned for the War Memorial will take place in the church allowing for the two minutes silence at 11am. The civic service will follow.  A decision will be taken at the end of the service as to whether there will be a procession back to the Guildhall and also if the march past will take place.   • Join the deputy mayor, councillor Rowena Bass for the Surbiton Remembrance Day service which will take place at the War Memorial on Ewell Road at 10.45am and finish at approximately 11.30am.  A parade will march down Ewell Road and past Surbiton Methodist Church where a salute will take place.   • There will be a service at Chessington War Memorial at 10.55am which will be followed by a service in the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Church Lane. Elmbridge

  • There will be a short ceremony at the Tilt Memorial on Armistice Day in Cobham. Crowds will gather from 10.45am at the Memorial (near the junction of Leigh Hill Road and Stoke Road).   • The Remembrance Day Parade in Cobham will gather in Hollyhedge Car Park from 10am. The parade will start at 10.15am and proceed to St. Andrew’s Church via the High Street and Church Street. The service at St. Andrew’s Church starts at 10.45am. There will be road closures in place in central Cobham on the morning of the parade and particularly from around 10.15am to 10.30am and then from around 11.45am to past noon as the parade returns via Church Street and the High Street to Hollyhedge Car Park. Richmond

  • A service will be held at the War Memorial, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond at 10.40am. A parade will form up at the Old Deer Park at 10.15am and will proceed to Whittaker Avenue at which point Members should join in the procession. (Members are to meet in the Old Town Hall prior to joining the procession). The wreath will be laid at 11am. The Mayor, Cllr David Linnette, will take the salute from the steps of Richmond Theatre.   • The deputy mayor, councillor Kate Howard, will take the salute at the march-past of local organisations at the Service in Radnor Gardens in Twickenham. Those attending are asked to meet at the Bowling Green Pavilion at 10.15am. A representative of the Royal British Legion will escort the parade to the War Memorial for the service at 10.50am.   • There will be a Remembrance Day Service at the Methodist Church in Hampton starting at 10.30am until about 11.35am when refreshments will be available for Members and visitors. The Parade will assemble at midday in front of the church, ready to march off precisely at 12.15pm for the annual wreath-laying ceremony at 12.30pm in front of the Hampton War Memorial Cottages in Oldfield Road, opposite Gander Green. Councillors may robe at the church prior to the service or before the Parade. The Parade will return at approximately 1pm to be dismissed at the Methodist Church.   • A parade of organisations will assemble at Sheen Lane Centre Car Park at 10.30am and will march to East Sheen War Memorial where a Service will be held at 11am. The Council will be represented by Cllr Lord True. (Sheen Lane Centre car park, Sheen Lane, Sheen. Sunday, November 13, 10.30am)
  • There will be a service at St Mary’s Church, Barnes following an act of remembrance in the churchyard at 10.50am. A rehearsal will take place at 9:30am on Saturday 12 November to run through timings and logistics. Revd. Richard Sewell and Geoffrey Barnett, one of the lay readers, will be in charge of the rehearsal. The Council will be represented by councillor Rita Palmer. (St Mary’s Church, Church Road, Barnes.   • There will be Parish Communion at 9.45am at St Andrew’s Church, Ham Common, with an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial in St Andrew’s Church Yard, commencing at 11am. At approx. 10.45am the congregation will march from the Church to the Memorial. The Council will be represented by Cllr Jean Loveland.   • A service will be held at the Teddington War Memorial in Teddington at 10.50am. The Council will be represented by Cllr Stephen Knight. People will muster outside the Teddington RBL from 10am. At approx. 10:20am the parade will march through the high street to the Memorial Hospital. Once the service is over people are welcome back to the RBL.   • A service will be held at the War Memorial at Kingston Bridge at 10.50am. This will proceed from a parade along Hampton Wick High Street from the Forrester’s Public House at 10.45am.   • A service will be held at St James Church, Hampton Hill at 9.45am followed at 10.55am by a parade to the war memorial in the church yard for the Act of Remembrance, the sounding of The Last Post and two minutes silence. Sutton

  • Sutton Council’s official Civic Act of Remembrance for Armistice Day marking the end of the First World War will take place in Trinity Square on Sutton High Street on Friday November 11. The ceremony will begin at 10.30am with the Mayor of Sutton Cllr Richard Clifton, the Mayoress and the Deputy Mayors, Cllr Steve Cook and Cllr Nali Patel, in attendance.   • The main civic service is being held at Holy Trinity Church, Maldon Road, Wallington. The service to remember those who gave their lives for us in serving our country starts at 10.30am, with the Mayor and Mayoress both in attendance, as will members of the Royal British Legion and the Boys Brigade.   • There will also be a service of remembrance by the War Memorial in Manor Park. The 10.30am service to formally pay tribute to all those who have given their lives in the service of this country will be conducted by the Rev. Justine Middlemiss, Rector of St Nicholas Church in Sutton. Members of the Royal British Legion, the Scouts, Guides, Beavers, Sutton Police Cadets and the Boys Brigade will be present, and Sutton Music Service is sending a young trumpeter to play ‘The Last Post’. Wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial by the Manor Park Friends Group, Sutton Local Committee and the Sutton & Cheam Rotary Club.   • At Trinity Church in Cheam Road, Sutton the Remembrance Day service starts at 10.30am and is led by the Rev Dr David Dickinson. Croydon

  • The Armistice Day ceremony on Friday will be extended to allow reflection on the awful events of Wednesday’s tragic tram incident at Sandilands. As in past years, the small ceremony will take place with a two-minute silence at 11am at the cenotaph in Katharine Street. Attended by the Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Wayne Trakas-Lawlor, the traditional ceremony will mark the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11thmonth of 1918. This year’s ceremony, however, takes on special significance as it will include a chance to remember Wednesday’s incident. Toward the end of the ceremony, a bugler will sound Reveille and the Mayor will ask all in attendance to observe an additional minute’s silence as a sign of respect for those who lost their lives. The British Legion has invited the borough commanders of both the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police, and there will also be a fire tender in attendance, with the crew on parade in Katharine Street. The borough’s book of condolence is available for all to sign in the Braithwaite Hall. Epsom

  • A short service will be held at the Clock Tower, Epsom. This service will be attended by the Mayor and Councillors, Royal British Legion, 135 Geographic Squadron Royal Engineers, Burma Star Association, Surrey Police, various schools and representatives of different faiths.   • The small Garden of Remembrance is in place for the month of November. It was opened by the Mayor, aided by local school children, on Tuesday 1 November.   • Organised by What's on in Epsom, this walk from Epsom Marketplace to the war memorial at Epsom Cemetery leaves the marketplace at 1.30pm, prompt, for a slow walk to the cemetery, a short non-religious service will take place followed by laying of wreaths.
