A driver who mowed down and killed a police officer has been playing Xbox Live in his cell.

The thug has also reportedly been using the nickname ‘Cop Killer’ as his gamer tag while using the games console.

PC Andrew Duncan was thrown into the air when he tried to pull over Gary Cody’s uninsured car for speeding in Sutton.

The dad-of-two, from Molesey, Surrey, was taken to hospital in critical condition but died two days later in September 2013.

Cody, also known as Gary Bromige, sped off but later handed himself in and was jailed for eight-and-a-half years.

But now it is believed the heartless thug has been bragging about the crime from behind bars.

The 28-year-old, of Holland Road, South Norwood, managed to connect his games console to the internet and set up a new account named ‘Cop Killer’, The Sun has reported.

Intelligence linking him to the profile is yet to be confirmed by police and is being investigated by Sussex.

And the Ministry of Justice has since said there is no credible intelligence that links Cody to the gamer tag.

Cody pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, causing death while uninsured and causing death while unlicensed.

He also admitted failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident in December 2013.

When he was sentenced a judge said he had been heard telling fellow inmates: "Prison is easy. I've got my telly. Don't care how long I get."

The Prison Service launched an investigation when Cody posted pictures on social media of him using the console in his jail cell.

A Prison Service spokesman said: “Where there is evidence to suggest offenders are illegally accessing the internet, we will always push for the strongest possible punishment - including referring the matter to the police as we have done in this case."

The father-of-two had stepped out to pull Cody over in Sutton after he was detected driving at 80-88mph in his VW Golf GTI.

The 47-year-old was married with two children. He joined the Metropolitan Police force in March 1990 – originally posted to Battersea.

Six years later he transferred to the South-West Territorial Support Group where he served for almost seven years before moving to Hammersmith and Fulham Borough.

In May 2004, he joined the South-West Traffic Unit.

Shortly after his death, his wife Claire said in statement: “Andrew was a fantastic husband, father, son and brother.

“This is supported by the many tributes which we are still receiving from his family and friends.”

"We are left with a huge void in our lives, but we have some fantastic memories that we will always treasure."
