The chef from Big Mike’s Calypso Kitchen in Croydon has been crowned the best takeaway chef in Britain.
Mike Springer, who won £2,500, received the prize at the 2016 British Takeaway Awards which was presented by comedian Rob Brydon at the Savoy in London.
Winner Mike Springer won for the expert skills, techniques and ingredients used to make his signature dish of Bajan Fish Cakes, as well as his passion for cooking.
He beat hundreds of other takeaway chefs across Britain to scoop the top award and prize money.

Mike Springer, Takeaway Chef at Big Mike’s Calpyso Kitchen, said: “I am absolutely stoked to win – this award is for Croydon, south London, Barbados and the Caribbean!
“I want to say thank you to all of Big Mike’s staff, all of Big Mike’s customers and my mother who inspired many of the recipes.
“It’s so nice to be acknowledged.
“It helps ease all the hard work and recognition is a nice thing to go home with.”
