A Purley nursery has been given an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the school watchdog Ofsted.

Inspectors who visited Purley Day Nursery, in Burcott Road, in December said staff provide high-quality teaching and have “excellent” relationships with the children.

Shona Allerton, manager of the nursery, which was opened in 1998, said the result of the inspection has driven her determination to provide a high standard of care even further.

On the quality of teaching, Ofsted said: “Staff have extremely high expectations of children. They make highly detailed assessments of their development, and use these with immense success to identify next steps in learning.

“All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make outstanding progress in their learning and are very well prepared for their move to school.”

The nursery received an ‘Outstanding’ rating in the report, which was published on January 7, across all areas of inspection.

Ms Allerton said: “Really pleased with the result, it was a nice surprise to start off the New Year. Staff put a lot of work into it and the report really reflects that.

“The rating has just made us more determined to keep going with the standard of care we provide.”

Purley Day Nursery and Montessori Centre provides education for 69 children under five years of age. 19 members of staff work with the children.
